Anarchists Against the Wall member elucidates group's effort in aiding Palestinian-Israeli activists
Israeli activist Gal Lugassi visited Northeastern as both an individual and a representative of the direct action group Anarchists Against the Wall to in regards to Palestine's current situation. AATW formed in 2003 out of opposition toward the Israeli enforced boarders that were built in Palestine in 2002. The group is based out of Israel and comprised of pro Palestinian-Israeli activists. "We are against the occupation and against the wall and against the control they have o Palestinians everyday lives," said Lugassi.
Held in the Golden Eagles Room, the event started 45 minutes late and attendance was slim. But when the presentation began, the audience sat attentively and engaged in the event as more people gradually trickled in. Throughout her presentation, Lugassi described her experiences and feelings as a pro
Palestinian-Israeli. Behind Lugassi was a projector screen that displayed a short film about a Palestinian man getting his land seized and having his olive trees cut down by the Israeli government; there was also a slide show of photographs taken of other scenes from within the country. The Q and A at the end got a little exciting as some audience members began making statements rather than asking questions.
For the duration of the event, t-shirts were sold and donations were accepted in efforts to aid the AATW legal fund, which helps pay for lawyers to defend Israeli and Palestinian activists who are being prosecuted by the Israeli government for protesting.
