I learned a lot but it was rediculously difficult.. I mean it was more than my other 3 courses combined. And she's a grammar Nazi. Practice your writing skills before you take her class.
Still do not know the point of the class, or her reason for being there. We read, she summarizes it in class, assigns papers (with no rubric, so anything goes when grading) that must include sources we were not to read, which is fine if you're not so critical when leaving projects so open ended. Did not like her, her methods, or lack thereof.
She said that she was available but then frequently wasn't because she was too busy. She teaches this class as if it is Grad level when it is just an intro class to College of Ed and to observing. You never knew what she wanted for "A" quality work and she took off points from your work like your grade had no meaning.
difficult, excessive, grueling, unbearable, unflinching, unwilling to listen to excuses, assigns a ton of work, and is sometimes difficult to meet with--yeah, it's true. But know that once you leave her class, you will know E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G there is to know about educational research. It is by no means simple, but what credible research project is?
Definitely in my top 3 great teachers I've had ANYWHERE. Had all of our names learned the first day of class. Expected a lot of each student. very knowledgeable and organized. Great sense of humor. Nurturing and always willing to help. Engaging projects and class discussions. What more could you ask for in a prof.?
If you want to learn, work difficult and do your great, and still only get a B or C.Then take her class. If you want to do PLENTY of work, more than necessary compared to other 306 teachers than take her class.teaches at a graduate level and has way too much material assigned, definately stressful and a headache class.I can say she REALLY knows her material
Amazing teacher! I cannot thank her enough for opening my eyes to another perspective of education. I took her class along with three others, it was not simple, yet if you attend class do the projects you will be ok. I also have a son and I work and was able to pull off a B, so there are no excuses not to pass her class!
I will be thankful to Dr. Holland for the rest of my life. She is passionate about teaching, and yes expects a lot from her students. She is preparing the future teachers of the world and it is definitely writing intensive. I can now handle any class that comes my way because of Dr. Holland. I received an A, so I know it's possible. |
