Out on a school night: The Pasta Bowl
3.5 out of 5 martinis
A Lincoln Park favorite, The Pasta Bowl has been a neighborhood attraction for over 10 years. Its lively atmosphere, affordable prices and key location make it a spot to keep in mind when looking for a delicious night out.
As one might expect, the main attractions at The Pasta Bowl are the various pasta entrees. Ranging from classic mac & cheese to lobster-stuffed ravioli, there are plates for anyone who loves their starch. The quality is slightly above Olive Garden, but with prices this good it becomes hard to complain. Dishes rarely go over ten dollars and the portions are sure to make any home-bred Italian who swear by their mother's spaghetti sauce, proud.
Besides the pasta, the menu features a full selection of salads and paninis. Although not as flashy or well prepared as the main courses, these dishes do help even out the incessantly Italian repertoire. Homemade lasagna is provided on Mondays as well as half-price bottles of wine on Tuesdays.
The restaurant is a small nook that can get pretty crowded on weekend nights. There is nothing too special about it with the scenery composed of typical vintage Italian posters often found in places like these. However, if you manage to get a seat by the "bar," then you will have a real taste of the action. The establishment has the kitchen in the middle of the seating area, allowing those who sit close enough to see the chefs prepare the food. During a really crowded night this can surely become a spectacle. Food is served promptly and the ingredients speak for themselves.
Located at 2434 N. Clark, the active neighborhood makes the Pasta Bowl a perfect place for a first date, or a quick bite before hitting the bars. Even if you feel like being lazy and staying home, The Pasta Bowl shall cater to your sedentary needs and deliver any dish to your house. Cheap prices, great food and a fun atmosphere, this place guarantees a good night out for the cash-starved college student.
