El Centro gets hot food on campus
Sodexho food services declines to provide meal service to satellite campus
El Centro has begun serving hot meals daily. According to El Centro Director Daniel Lopez, hot meals will be served on weekdays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The menus will rotate on a daily basis.
The food service concession was awarded to Latin Restaurant and Catering located nearby on Irving Park Road. Latin Restaurant and Catering will keep the income they make selling food to students and staff. The company will not be charged by El Centro nor will El Centro incur any cost for the food service.
Lopez said that Sodexho, the company that operates the cafeteria on the main campus, declined an offer to provide food service at El Centro.
Lopez said the food would be served out of portable hot boxes. Until this service began, students had access only to vending machines at the satellite campus, located at 3119 N. Pulaski Road in Chicago.
