UGC Greek Week Roundup

The United Greek Council (UGC) arranged fun events like Greek Jeopardy, Greek Athletes, and Greek Talent Show performances during Greek Week. The sisters and brothers of all the major Greek fraternities attended the Jeopardy game, where categories of questions included: history of Greek fraternites, Greek pop culture, movies, TV shows, Greek wits, Greek administration, Greek fun facts, Snapple facts, Greek dictionary, national Greeks, and campus life in general.

"The event is organized so that all the fraternities can come together because we (the Greek fraternities) are always divided and we have separate events," said Kathy ‘Enthusiasm' Baran, the social chair of UGC and proud sister of Theta Chi Omega. "This is to show that we Greeks are a family, [whether] we are separate clubs or groups."

UGC also hosts bigger events every year in order to bring the fraternities together.

"We have events like scavenger hunts, which is a fun game because it helps you learn about your school and your friends," said Baran. "Today we did Jeopardy, which gives a lot of knowledge and [allows you to] learn more about Greek life, your fellow Greeks, and your administrators."

Greek Week may take a lot of effort to plan, but the Greeks embrace any time they are able to spend together.

"Only one week in the whole semester can we come together and do this," said Baran. "It takes a lot of hard work to organize the events and make all the arrangements, but in the end, it feels so worthwhile because it's so much fun and we all have a very good time."

The clubs must also host informational events, since it is vital for all of the Greeks to know about the different aspects of their organization.

"Each Greek organization has a Founder's Week, where they have events that represent their own organizations, values, beliefs, fundraisers, and dances," said Baran. "The Greeks go out and volunteer, and the feeling is inexpressible—it makes you feel so happy on the inside, and even though you cry because you lose a game, you will feel good and enjoy playing at the same time."

Most importantly, these events also allow students to familiarize themselves with the sororities and fraternities offered on campus.

"The more visible we are, the more we can do for the school," said Baran. "To get recognized is a great feeling, and more and more organizations are forming on campus and joining UGC."

According to Baran, the UGC wants students to know that it has its doors open for new organizations to join.

"We welcome everyone to join UGC, all you need to do is come to C.O.C (Council of Clubs), shows us what your fraternity is about and we will surely help and approve you," she said. "The UGC is an umbrella that covers all the Greek organizations, and is actively engaged in creating fun, and stress free environments for the students."
