Beating that beat up in Vegas
Within the last 10 years, MTV has successfully turned many reality TV shows such as "The Real World" and "16 and Pregnant" into spin offs. Our loveable fist pumping cast of the "Jersey Shore" is no stranger to the spin off world. As a matter of fact, on March 29, 2012, Pauly D (Paul DelVecchio) premiered his spin off show "The Pauly D Project "on MTV. Although the season is only 2 episodes in, it is clear that "The Pauly D Project" give us a different perspective of the tanned guido that the [Jersey] shore doesn't.
In this series; DelVecchio seems to document his journey of going from local DJ in his hometown of Providence, Rhode Island to being a resident DJ at the Palms Casino Hotel in Las Vegas via his Jersey Shore celebrity. However, DelVecchio couldn't possibly attempt to "beat that beat up" in Vegas without his boys; Jerry (bodyguard), Ryan (wingman) and Biggie (DJ mentor). About 6 months pass after DelVecchio's initial DJ appearance performance at the Palms is when he gets the call that he is now a resident DJ there. As excited as the boys are about being in Vegas, DelVecchio leaves behind his father who recently suffered from a stroke and Biggie who is in a serious relationship with his girlfriend. However, that doesn't stop the boys from popping bottles and celebrating when they land in Vegas and see DelVecchio's name in lights. The comfort of Vegas seems to slowly set in with temptations of twinkies, alcohol and women at every corner. With such luxuries only a phone call away, it practically invites the guys to let loose, making Ryan the first to get too loose at the club's bar. With Ryan being M.I.A. and picking bar fights throughout the hotel, Biggie trying to find Ryan, and Jerry taking care of girls who are too sick to be D.T.F., where does that leave DelVecchio's reputation with the Palms?
Being the Jersey Shore fanatic that I am, I have to admit "The Pauly D Project" had a slower start than I anticipated. While the show seems to follow the Jersey shore lifestyle, to me it feels less dramatic, and I suppose it's because this show doesn't have the stresses of Snooki, Ronnie & Sammi, and the Situation. However, I think this show exposes a side of DelVecchio that we don't really get to see in "Jersey Shore", a side that really allows us to understand DelVecchio as DJ Pauly D. After seeing the first two episodes and a preview of next week; I think we can expect to a falling out between all of the boys and Ryan, Jerry and DelVechhio having serious girlfriends, and Biggie possibly disobeying his girlfriend. Ultimately I don't see DelVecchio losing his residency at the Palms, but you never know when you're a "guido for life."
