International Business Conference
This year's International Business Conference (IBC) focused on Asia Pacific, which consisted of 14 sessions, including a closing keynote presentation from the Book Per Semester The Art of War- Spirituality for Conflict": Annotated and Explained by Thomas Huynh.
IBC has been a successful conference at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU). The student group coordinating the conference utilizes social media, radio stations, and other outlets to promote and grow the conference.
The basic goal of the IBC conference is to help NEIU business majors obtain insight, understanding and practical information about doing business in a diverse and global landscape. Conference speakers have come from businesses, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, as well as universities throughout the United States and around the world. IBC sessions cover issues across the international marketplace.
Some session themes include:
• Opportunities and challenges that international businesses face today.
• Tips and best practices for doing business globally.
• Roles, relationships, similarities and differences within and between countries.
• Historical and projective perspectives to help shape the current state of business.
• Ethical issues that affect businesses around the world.
The IBC originally started in 2002 by Lucas Dorbrzynski, a Northeastern Illinois University student from Poland. The event attracted 450 people. In 2003, another NEIU student from Hong Kong, Pui Tang, decided to host the IBC event focusing on East Asia and the number of attendees doubled that year. Since then, the IBC has reached a little more than 2,000 attendees. Every year the conference is organized and run by students of the College of Business and Management at NEIU. Each year, the conference focuses on different regions of the world. Many faculty members bring their classes to these conference sessions.
Latin America has been selected as the focus for the 2013 IBC and will be coordinated by a group of students led by Liz Nazario and Hector Ochoa under the direction of Professor Emeritus Dr. Durward Hofler.
