In the holiday creations of Danny Donuts, his album called Wacky Winterland is a CD full of Christmas parodies of Christmas and Beatles music.
During a first listen, someone wouldn’t think much about the album. It sounds like a kid recording songs in his basement with his friends (which could very well be what the album is), but then by the third song you start to get into it.
The third song, entitled “Can’t Buy Me Jingle Bells,” is basically “Jingle Bells” to the tune of “Can’t Buy Me Love” by the Beatles. It’s very likeable how he got the song to fit the Beatles song almost perfectly.
The album is very basic. It consists of piano music and a few sound effects here and there. Danny Donuts sings most of the vocals, with a few of his friends doing voices in the background.
All of the rhythms are either pre-existing Christmas songs or songs by the Beatles. Because the album is parody, the songs also have humor to them. “Andrew Berkenstein” is a Hanukkah song complete with a “typical” Jewish mother and many others. The origin of Christmas music tells a comical story about just that, the origin of Christmas music.
So if you’re a fan of parody music, such as Weird Al Yankovic, and you are a fan of Beatles music, I suggest you pick up this album. If you are interested you can visit his Web site at DannyDonuts.com for more information.
