Spring into fitness

The Spring II group exercise schedule is now available. NEIU Campus Recreation has posted the new classes scheduled for Feb. 25 through May 1.

Group exercise classes include Spin, Hard Core Abs, muscle sculpting and conditioning, and several cardio-dance sessions. They all promise to get your heart pumping and make you sweat while you have fun getting fit. There are also several Mind/Body sessions designed to reduce stress such as meditation, yoga and Pilates. Most classes are 45 minutes to an hour long, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday though Saturday.

Students looking to start a spring fitness regiment can recieve a free fitness assessment and three sessions with a certified personal trainer. Although the training sessions are not required in order to sign up for groups classes, they are designed to help patrons set fitness goals and get them motivated to make healthy changes. All the trainers are educated and certified according to the guidelines of the American College of Sports Medicine.

Campus Recreation is also hosting demonstration classes during the ‘workout hour.’ These are 45 minute classes for anyone wishing to sample one of the group exercise classes. The remaining demo classes are scheduled for Mar. 10, Hard Abs; Mar. 24, Latin Dance; and Apr. 1, Kickbox. Workout hour is Tuesdays from 2-2:45 p.m. Most group exercise classes are free to NEIU students with a valid student ID.

Aside from group exercises, there are several programs being offered by Campus Recreation designed to motivate and educate. Some of these include sport clubs, fitness workshops, running clinics, and upcoming races. Stay tuned for more features on the NEIU Campus Recreation spring program.
