Artists Statement
My fascination with the human body began in high school while taking a biology class in conjunction with an anatomy and physiology class…
The textures and shapes in the interior and exterior of the body captured me and to this day I incorporate the body and its textures into my work…
While casting body parts I found the palms of hands to be visually stunning and chose them to represent my interest in the body…
I am a sensory-oriented person and touching things is how I understand them fully. When I work with and manipulate clay it reminds me of the wonderment and child-like curiosity I felt when I was learning about the body and how to manipulate it.
I wanted to embody and share that feeling while still producing art that was aesthetically pleasing.
Touching v. is an abstract representation of how I feel about the beautiful complexity of the human body, inside and out.
