Watch This (Holiday Edition)

It’s that time of year again where everything seems to sparkle, things seem a little brighter and people just seem to smile a little more. It’s the holiday season and I think it’s probably the one time of the year where I am just extremely happy. I can’t tell you exactly why, other than the spirit of the holiday excites me. However, my holidays just wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t catch these awesome holiday specials on TV. I thought I’d share so you can enjoy them this year, too!

Movies

1. Home Alone 1 (1990) Favorite Scene: When Kevin plants all these traps around the house, and Marv and Harry (the robbers) fall for all of them!

2. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) Favorite Scene: When Kevin goes to Duncan’s Toy Chest and you see the amazing display of toys that are available for kids to play with.

3. The Santa Clause (1994) Favorite Scene: When the police finally catch Scott Calvin aka Santa Claus, and they are ask- ing him if he’s Scott Calvin, but his responses are only the different ways children all over the world call him “Santa Claus.” Finally, Calvin responds “Topo Gigo!”

4. Elf (2003) Favorite Scene: When Buddy wanders around Grimbel’s and hears Jovie singing “Baby its Cold Outside,” so he goes to sing with her. Of course that song requires two people sing it as a call and response. So as Jovie is singing it in the shower at work, Buddy starts singing it with her, which scares her.

5. A Christmas Story (1983) Favorite Scene: After Ralphie’s mom has gotten him and his brother ready for school, and she bundles up Ralphie’s brother Randy so much that when he falls down outside, he can’t get back up! Can’t you envision Randy rolling from side to side, trying to get up while yelling “I CAN’T GET UP!”?

Animated Shows

1. A Year Without a Santa Claus (1974) Favorite Scene: Mrs. Claus visits the Heat and Snow miser and both characters have their little minions singing their songs.

2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) Favorite Scene: The Grinch steals all of Whoville’s presents, Christmas decorations and food. As he’s taking everything from the Whoville homes, the famous “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” song plays, and the bags just keep piling up on his poor dog.

3. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) Favorite Scene: Charlie Brown tries to fix up his horrible looking Christmas tree by putting an ornament on it. It stays but then all of a sudden the branch falls over and all the needles fall out, hence making it a Charlie Brown tree.

4. Shrek the Halls (2007) Favorite Scene: When Donkey, Gingy and Puss-in-Boots try to entertain everyone at Shrek’s house by telling them their version of Santa.

5. 8 Crazy Nights (2002) Favorite Scene: Davey has to go live with Whitey and Whitey’s sister Eleanor. As Davey walks through the door, Whitey and Eleanor lay down some rules…musically. They begin to sing a song called “Technical Fouls.”
