Everyone loves a love story. Girl meets boy, boy kisses girl, girl’s life is changed forever. Well, that’s exactly what happened in the play A Room with a View at the Lifeline Theater.
Lucy Honeychurch (Hillary Clemens) and her much older cousin Charlotte (Sandy Snyder) go on a trip to Venice and end up meeting some very interesting characters. It all starts when Charlotte complains about her room not having a view. The nice man Emerson (John Coriell) offers to switch rooms with them. He also happens to have a rather attractive son, George (Bryson Engelen). In a brief moment, and for no particular reason, George passionately kisses the young Lucy and changes everything she ever knew.
The play involved a lot of random talking, name-dropping, and gossiping going on that was rather hard to keep up with. Fortunately, it wasn’t that important to the plot. They used very little scenery, which worked out just fine in this play since there wasn’t much need for scenery. Most of the actors played more than one character, which could be a bit confusing if you couldn’t ¦keep up with the names, because some of the people had similar personalities. For instance, Rev. Eager and Cecil were both played by actor Robert Kauzlaric. Both characters hated the same people and had similar personalities. The only difference between the two characters was a slim mustache that Cecil wore.
For the most part, the play was enjoyable. Despite being hard to keep up with, the play had good humor to keep you interested, and the characters were very memorable. Lucy’s asides to the audience were particularly funny, and half the time they said exactly what the audience was thinking.
The play is showing at the Lifeline Theater through Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, 4 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets run from $14 to $24.
