Energy has become a growing debate for everyone regardless of their party affiliation, religion or social class. It is something that affects us all. So who is going to throw some ideas out to the public?
Kilowatt Ours, a not-for-profit group, put out an award-winning solutions-based documentary by the same name. “Kilowatt Ours” talks about the true financial, health and environmental costs of American energy policies right now. It also talks about the benefits of various more environmentally friendly forms of energy. Some of the forms of energy that are brought up are solar, wind and hydrological, though it does bring up others that would remove dependence on current energy needs. The film and organization, “Kilowatt Ours,” promotes energy conservation, efficiency and renewable energy.
The organization itself tries to educate, inspire and help communities lower their reliance on coal or oil-based energy means. Some people realize the importance of the need to shift to other forms of energy but don’t have the means or the ideas to make the shift. That is what the organization itself does. According to the counter on the Kilowatt Ours site, the environmentally-minded community they’ve started has helped save 4,897,831 lbs of coal. The count rises as people become more aware of what they can do and more enabled to be able to do it.
With the help of members from the Northside Greens (NSG), a group that includes people who were candidates for municipal, state and federal elected positions in the 2008 elections, Claddagh Ring Pub is hosting a screening of the documentary. Claddagh Ring Pub, located at 2306 W. Foster Ave. is a nice, cozy pub that most people can enjoy and they have a variety of different events. It’s ideal for groups and has a good staff helping the pub run like a well-oiled machine. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m.
It will begin with an introduction made by one of the people behind the planning of the event. Following the introduction, the movie will be played. Then there will be a Q&A session following the film about the different topics that are brought up the film.
One thing that is happening for the event is a sale on drinks, $0.50 drafts. So come on by for the cozy feel of the pub and the movie. Stay for a Q&A and the drinks. I will most likely be there to support some colleagues. So maybe we’ll all learn something together. Enjoy.
