The Hunger Games seems to be one of the most anticipated movies of this year, probably because this futurist story is based on a novel written by Suzanne Collins. After an apocalyptic war in what used to be America, a new country emerges called Panem. The capital is full of wealthy citizens and the President, which runs the rest of the poor country. The country is split into 12 districts, with two contestants (ages 12 to 18) being sent to compete in a reality show. The 24 contestants are placed in a massive arena where they battle to the death. Only one can survive the games. This is the Capital’s
way of reminding the districts that they are under their authority, and that they must never cause a rebellion. Jennifer Lawrence plays the main character, Katniss and Josh Hutcherson plays Peeta. Katniss and Peeta are the chosen tributes to fight from district 12. Once the tributes enter the arena, it’s all about survival skills. However while becoming warriors, Katniss and Peeta get very close, complicating matters and elevating the story line in the film. They are both aren’t sure if they are truly in love, or if it’s just a show for the spectators in order to keep them alive. For those who may have read the book, there are a couple changes in the movie, but nothing too dramatic. The film has received high ratings and positive feedback from critics. Many can enjoy it because it has romance, action, danger, expensive CGI, teenage carnage and attractive young leads.
