Streep and Adams master their art in “Julie & Julia”

“Julie & Julia” is a movie that warms audiences’ hearts and stomachs and grabs a few chuckles along the way. Based on the book by Julie Powell, “Julie & Julia” follows the true story of Julie Powell’s journey of writing a blog about cooking all of Julia Child’s recipes from the cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” for a year. It also follows Julia Child’s life in Paris as she learns to cook and puts her cookbook together.      Meryl Streep shines as Julia Child. She takes the role and owns it.  She embodies Child so effortlessly. As for Amy Adams, she is a very talented and funny actress and brings such sweetness to her role as Julie Powell. Throughout the movie you find yourself rooting for her character because you want to see her happy and succeed. Chris Messina plays Julie’s husband Eric Powell and does a wonderful job bringing humor to the role, giving the audience a laugh.     It was interesting to learn about Child’s life in Paris and see her learn the skills that made her the great chef she was. It was also refreshing to see a romance on screen between the characters of Julia and her husband Paul Child played by Stanley Tucci. While watching the movie you really get the sense that Paul loved Julia so much for who she was and Julia really loved Paul. Both Streep and Tucci make that come across on screen very well. “Julie & Julia” is an enjoyable film.  If you enjoy Julia Child and like to cook or just feel like seeing a movie on a rainy day, this is the movie for you. Bon Appetit!
