Greetings! I hope your fall classes are continuing to go well, and that you are getting the support you need to be successful.
As I write this column, we have just returned from Lobby Day in Springfield. Twenty-six students and six employees made the journey by bus to tell our story of the critical need for MAP funds for all Illinois students. It was an interesting day, and a successful one. You probably know, given the time delay from writing this column to printing it, that the legislature voted to restore the funds, and the Governor has signed the bill. Congratulations to everyone who helped in so many different ways.
I want to invite everyone to our Town Hall meeting for students. It is scheduled for Thursday, November 5, at 1:40 p.m. in the Auditorium. So what exactly is a Town Hall meeting? For Northeastern, it is an open forum with the President and other senior officers for you to ask whatever questions you like. I always begin with a few items of information, then open it up to hear from the participants. The only condition is that comments are made and questions are asked with civility and respect. Our goal is to have an opportunity for dialogue and to foster communication. So mark your calendars for November 5th.
I also want to invite you to participate in the interviews for candidates for the position of Vice President for Student Life at NEIU. This is an important position which guides our co-curricular activities and helps support student success. We will shortly announce three finalists; they will have visits to the University in mid-November. Sessions are scheduled specifically for students to attend as well as general sessions which anyone may attend. There will be an opportunity to provide feedback on the candidates to the screening committee.
Let me hear from you at PresColumn@neiu.edu . Until next time.
