Many newer students, or those who are not majoring in a science discipline, may be unaware of the Math Lab at the Learning Center, located on the fourth floor of the Ronald Williams Library. The Math Lab is a free service to all NEIU students. While the tutors’ main priority is to aid with those taking 90 and 100 level coursework, they are quite willing to assist with all levels being taught at Northeastern. They also coach students who are studying for the Basic Skills Test of the State Teacher Certification program.
There’s no appointment necessary. Thirteen assistants are available, ready to help, for a total of fifty-two hours a week.
Mike Martindale has been heading up the Math Lab since 2000 and gains a great deal of satisfaction aiding students. As a returning adult student in 1997, Mike completed his undergraduate studies and then secured his position in the Learning Center. You only need speak to him for more than a few minutes to understand that it is not only his job but his passion. “Returning to get my degree was the best thing I ever did. I’m happier, healthier, and a feel a whole lot better about my life.”
