Ten ways to graduate on time

What does every student at NEIU have in common? They all want to graduate. It is well known that Northeastern has a low graduation rate, so how are students ever to get out of here? There are a few things that might help expedite the process.

Go see your advisor every semester before registration. The advisors will make sure students are on track and taking the right classes. To find out advisor assignments call (773) 442-5470.

Make sure to bring copy of the Academic Catalog and the Schedule of Classes and read them often. The more familiar students are with the requirements for graduation, the less likely they are to make a mistake.

Don’t forget to confirm the registration with a payment, as the digital voice says

“If you do not make a payment by the due date your classes will be canceled. Bills will not be mailed.”

Students need a minimum of 120 semester hours in order to graduate. Of those hours,

24 hours must be 300 level courses and another 18 hours must be 200 or 300 level courses.

Take the English Competency Exam as soon as possible after completing English 101. This is needed in order to graduate, schedule a time to take all tests by calling (773) 442-5293 or by stopping by the office in D-130.

Don’t forget about the Math Placement Test. This test must taken before any math courses can be registered for. Once students get their results, they must see an advisor to help figure out which math classes they will need to graduate.

When taking any class for a general education requirement, make sure to look at the Schedule of Classes limited list of classes first. If one takes a class off of that list, it will definitely count for a general education class-if not, some trouble getting may occur. Transfer students who have classes that they think should count help move to graduation faster should petition to have them included. Find information about petitioning in Enrollment Services.

PSCI-216, American National Government, satisfies both the human relations requirement and the constitution requirement. Consider it and kill two birds with one stone.

Most of all, if there are any questions, ask. If the answer does not fit, ask someone else. Getting to know who can help find out answers is the best way to ensure that graduation will be sooner rather than later.
