Dean Kate Forhan has accepted the position of Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of Southern Maine and will be leaving Northeastern Illinois University later this semester.
Forhan began her career at NEIU during the summer of 2002. Since Forhan has been dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, it has grown in terms of students enrollment and declaration of a major, as well as the number of graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Forhan said what she will miss most about NEIU will be the students, staff and faculty.
“I have been a daily witness to the expression of NEIU’s values, especially ‘Empowerment through Learning’,” said Forhan.
Another thing Forhan said she will miss is the opportunity to read the names of every single graduate from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Forhan will take with her the knowledge and skills she has learned in here time at NEIU.
“President Sharon Hahs showed me how a president sets the tone for the whole university by her interactions with people,” said Forhan.
“The staff in the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office taught me a lot about managing a large and complex office and how important the staff is to student success,” said Forhan.
“I am going to miss them a lot. They are wonderful people.”
Forhan’s first day at the University of Southern Maine will be April 1.
