Some people are born to write, jotting down their thoughts and facts onto paper, informing others of the unknown and the impossible. Some people are born to act, incorporating raw and in-your-face energy into their character on theatrical stages or on the big screen. Other people are born to bring joy and color to people’s life through singing melodic and soulful lyrics, inspiring audiences everywhere to mend a broken heart or simply “change the record.” Melanie Fiona is one of those singers that was born to change the world through her music by incorporating life experiences that speak to people everywhere, and represents.
“I am very proud of the M.F. Life album. It breathes such pure honesty and rawness based on what I have endured in life and love, and I think everyone can relate to the album because at some point, [they] have experienced the same thing,” she explained. Melanie went on to say that there are songs on the CD that will make the audience explore the depths of their emotions. “The single, Change the Record is about making a change in your life. If something or someone is distracting you from moving towards [progress], then “change the record.” That’s all you can do if you want change in your life,” she said.
During Melanie’s career, she has collaborated with great artists in the industry, such as John Legend, Common, Cee-lo Green and others just to name a few. “Working with various artists such as John Legend, Cee-lo Green, was a great experience because these musicians are people that I admire and respect…being able to receive an opportunity to collaborate with them was a blessing,” she mentioned. Although Melanie has been compared to having a stage presence like Beyoncé, she gives complete credit to five artists that have paved the way in the music world. “The five favorite people that I get my style [from] are [Whitney Houston], Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Alicia Keys and Sam Cooke, because these are the ones who have immensely paved the way for someone like me to do what I love,” she said. Melanie also believes in resolving life’s problems by letting the universe take its course. “I believe letting go and let the universe handle the rest through music and the essence of its conception. Without music, I feel that people will not be able to relate to life’s ups and downs, nor would they be able to survive it.”
