Exit Through the Gift Shop: A film that proved that documentaries can be entertaining and fun, too. This Oscar nominated mockumentary is about Thierry Guetta, a French immigrant in Los Angeles whose fascination with street art and graffiti led him to be pranked by the street art maestro Banksy. While the film’s authenticity has been doubted, the suspicion only makes the film more entertaining.

Super 8: J.J Abram’s most accomplished film to date. Super 8 is homage to Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi dramas of 70s and 80s and it set a new standard for the monster movie genre. Focusing on the exploits of a group of kids in 1979, the film opens with them making their own homemade zombie movie with a super 8 camera. While filming, they capture the derailment of a cargo train which later unleashes a monster. There are noticeable plot parallels in this sci-fi thriller to Spielberg‘s earlier alien movies, particularly E.T., as the film also has a lot of emotional moments combined with sweeping wide shots that set the imagination on fire.
