A Marital Business Deal of the Year by Kardashian?

What could be more exciting than a multimillion dollar wedding? Beats everything on your list, right? Recently, Kim Kardashian got married to her boyfriend Kris Humphries. The wedding itself was arranged like an amazing fairy tale wedding that would surely be any woman’s dream. The wedding aired on E! Network as a special titled “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding”. One must, however, sit down and analyze if this marriage was ever real. Was there even love in this marriage or was it all about the money? I personally think that this was all about the money, because any marriage that lasted only 72 days is a joke. I would have thought that they would at least make it to a year, even six months.

There seems to have been a lack of love and affection between them, and what little love they shared was that of money and fame. The whole marriage was a publicity stunt at best and at worst, it was a manipulation of public emotion as an investment in the Kardashian brand. They achieved what they wanted, the attention of a nation of TV watchers. They got millions of people to talk about them and the wedding, and then the sudden divorce.

That’s what the Kardashians do best, get people to watch and talk about their pointless, mindless reality show. What’s even more upsetting than Kim Kardashian’s short marriage is that because of that dramatic farce, more people now watch the show after their spilt. Ever since the breakup, millions of new viewers have tuned in to watch the Kardashian show. I expect that this season will be the highest in ratings and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Kardashian clothing line does extremely well as a result. The Kardashians are now like a franchise, in a way, and they got famous over literally nothing. They make no real contribution to society, yet they make millions by capitalizing on America’s interest in them doing nothing useful. This wedding and divorce spectacle was just another way to make easy millions off of faux-celebrity voyeurism. While the average woman earnestly dreams of having an amazing fairy tale wedding, I think to Kim, it is just a big joke.  After all, she claims to be a businesswoman, so it’s no surprise that she’ll try to turn a profit off anything she can, including shamelessly using and abusing the institution of marriage

The meaning of getting married has obviously changed as time has gone by. Personally, I believe that marriage is meant to be between two people that love each other and want to be together. People that get married tend to want to stay that way, and work out their problems together. The fact of the matter is, Kim is sending the message to young girls that look up to her that it’s ok to divorce someone when things get hard. The fact that she didn’t even try to address the problems she was facing with her husband was incredibly sad. A young girl might get the wrong message that marrying some one for money, or just for fun, is ok. What’s even sadder is how many people in society still look up to the Kardashians, and even admire them despite such a disappointing show of poor character.
