Effective as of fall 2010, developmental courses including English Language Program (ELP-099) and Mathematics 90, 91 and 92 will no longer be counted towards a student’s GPA nor in the hours earned. Faculty Council of Academic Affairs approved this change on April 9. Grades earned in these classes will be replaced by new grades: RA, RB, RC, RD and RF. However, developmental courses will still continue to contribute to the Financial Aid department’s student educational progress specifications.
Students who have taken, or are taking, the above mentioned developmental courses should consult their advisors prior to the upcoming fall semester, so any necessary or additional coursework can be taken accordingly.
The courses are important since they contribute to a students’ learning and development towards other required, and more challenging, courses such as English 101, the new step might confuse students.
Furthermore, students may no longer be obliged to work harder in these courses, as their GPA total will not be effected in any way.
