It’s the typical midwestern small town. Everybody knows one another; goes to the high school ball games and someone is always the talk of the town. It seems perfect, not a care in the world for anyone. That is until strange things start happening to some of the folks in town. A family man burns down his house with his wife and son still inside and just starts mowing the lawn right after. A man attempts to blow away the sheriff’s head. What’s happening to their town? What’s taking place? Something bigger than them is occurring. Will they find out the cause? Will they make it out alive?
“The Crazies” truly is the perfect name for this movie. Craziness and insanity seem to be what’s plaguing these people. It’s pure and utter insanity. “The Crazies” is action-packed and suspenseful and at the turn of every corner there is something else just bound to smack you in the face.
Although it appears promising from the get-go, as the movie unfolds some of its issues start to appear. Yeah, the storyline was good and all but people go in expecting a whole lot more than what it gave. Maybe it’s best to watch it without any expectations or agenda. Don’t go expecting something epic, almost akin to a blood-soaked video game, “The Crazies” simply doesn’t have the material to back it up.
They build up the movie, leading audiences to expect something beyond belief but rather it’s something that could truly happen any day of the week, and quite possibly may happen. Perhaps that’s what makes the movie good. Knowing that this sort of thing could happen any time, something you can and should fear. It makes you question your life altogether. Have you simply been living in an ignorant bubble all of your life? It makes you question pretty much all the freedom and safety you believed you once had. Despite its lapses this movie does leave you with something more to talk about than its awesome gore effects.
If you are ready to have your world rocked and become unstable underneath you, then check out “The Crazies.” It’s something new and unique, yet so familiar , hitting close enough to home to keep you up at night.
