Brand new in the music scene is the underground band The Hue. Unique to the core, these guys provide a completely instrumental arrangement of songs. Now you may be thinking, “Oh, well they must be a classical group or the like,” yet what makes these guys so different than any other current band out currently is that they are a rock group. If you like guitar solos, drums, the keyboard, and the occasional epic jam come and check out this group.
As I was listening to their music I couldn’t help but try and equate them to something that I already knew, but I just couldn’t because they are so different; so I had to do a conglomeration of several to give you an idea. Think the Trans-Siberian Orchestra on a smaller scale (rather than a full 100 plus person orchestra, think five guys), add on the long solo in “Spirit in the Sky,” and imagine the music from the old Sega Genesis “Sonic the Hedgehog.” Throw in some techno and you have the Hue. Their CD is called “The Hue Beyond Worlds.” It contains nine songs, but don’t think you are getting gyped. Some of their songs last a long while, like Bipolar Pride, clocking in at over 14 minutes. The problem I have with the Hue is that all their music starts to sound the same. It’s like they have captured a certain sound and it all starts to fade in and run together. Now, don’t get me wrong when I first put their CD in I loved it, but after a few songs it just all seemed very similar. They have clung to their original sound and were afraid to move away from it and try new things, or maybe there is only so much you can do with their type of music. If this is so then they won’t go too far as a group, but if they can capture some other sounds, utilize that and mix it up then they will go far. Personally I think they lack the innovation to stand out in the music business, but stick them in any old-school game and they’ll fit in perfectly.
