Winter in Chicago is horrible, not just on your health but on your social life. It’s too cold to go outside and staying inside loses its appeal after awhile. For those of you who are restless to get out and explore Chicago, here are some things that you can do this winter.
You can go ice skating. The Chicago Park District has various indoor and outdoor rinks. Millennium Park, 201 E. Randolph St. has an outdoor rink open until mid March. It is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday until 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday until 9 p.m. The rink also has skating lessons Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. If ice skating is not your idea of fun, they also have dancing lessons in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. during February. You could catch a movie. A lot of big-name actors are coming out with movies. “The Book of Eli” with Gary Oldman and Denzel Washington, “Dear John” with Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried “From Paris with Love” staring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers and many other movies are either now playing or will soon play. Going out to see a movie may not seem like an interesting activity but it is great if you go with a group of friends and make a day out of it.
You could visit a museum, Chicago is full of museums of every type. There is bound to be something to interest you. It is also possible to visit the museums on a college student’s budget. Many of the museums have free days, either at regular times each week or select days out of the month. Visit http://www.chicagohotblog.com/chicago-museum-free-days for information on various museums’ free days.
Staying inside gets old fast. There are many more things that can be done both indoors and outdoors rather to spend a moment bored. Take a chance and get out to see Chicago like it was meant to be seen. Chicago is such a great city that it would be a shame not to take advantage of every attraction that it has to offer.
