Travel to the world’s end

Cabo San Lucas is a great vacation spot in North America. The city resides at the tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico, separating the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. The mountainous desert region provides a hot and dry climate that is a great break from the frigid winter in Chicago. At the heart of Los Cabos is the Marina at Puerto Los Cabos. The marina is home to the majority of the boats used for fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling and the various cruises that are available. Surrounding the marina slips are several small shops and over 30 restaurants and bars. The restaurants capitalize on the great fishing and offer freshly caught seafood at amazing prizes. The hosts will attempt to lure you in with their specials as you walk the promenade. It is common to enjoy a surf and turf dinner for two for under $80. You can expect the dinner to include two of each of the following: eight ounce filet mignon, lobster tail, four jumbo shrimp along with fresh vegetables and rice.

Cabo offers an assortment of activities for land and sea lovers alike. Ride the high seas on cruises or jet skis. Swim with dolphins, peer through the crystal clear Sea of Cortez while snorkeling or scuba diving. You can also grab an aerial view of the landscape while parasailing. The fishing is second to none and Los Cabos is home to the largest marlin tournament in the world. For those who do not have sea legs, riding zip lines are available along with taking donkey or horseback rides. Thrill seekers may wish to hop on the back of an ATV and attack the baja dunes at over 30 miles per hour!

For those looking for some real R&R on their vacation, make sure to visit Medano Beach. Medano beach features some of the softest sand, a gorgeous view and plenty of people with which to socialize. Two restaurants stand out on Medano beach, as they are actually on the beach front rather than back on the street. The Office and The Mango Deck are directly adjacent to each other and have several tables with umbrellas on the beach area going almost to the water. Each offers drink and food specials to go along with several MTV spring break-type contests to keep patrons entertained.

The majority of liquor-serving establishments in Los Cabos offer happy hour from as early as 10:00 a.m. until beyond 5:00 p.m. and the fun does not end when the sun goes down. Every night is Ladies Night in Cabo, the trick is finding which bar is hosting. Ladies Night specials typically consist of free entry and drinks for women, bringing in large crowds looking for a good time. Hot spots for nightlife include Sammy Hagar’s famed Cabo Wabo as well as El Squid Roe. El Squid Roe is a three-floor club which stands out not only for its size, but also for its lack of a roof.

There are beautiful hotels located in Los Cabos, however several of them are situated in the corridor requiring a brief drive into the city area. Taxis are cheap and highly recommended. Cabo is a great place to vacation and will provide a lifetime of memories. The vast majority of the city and activities are easily accessible and ,more importantly, affordable.
