OK. This is the first column that will cover something that has little, if anything, to do with horror. I’ll be plugging my blog, titled “Skeletons in the Closet.”
Yes, even though this is my outlet for madness-inspiring horror in its many forms, I have many other tastes and views. So much so that even the two other writing gigs I have outside of the paper don’t really suffice. I’m very much like Stephen Colbert the way he opens up “I Am American (And So Can You).” Where he’s still talking after the camera stops running, I’m still writing after the story(ies) are sent to the editor. It isn’t an ego-trip or anything like that. It’s just an overabundance of material out there.
So my writing for this paper isn’t enough. Neither is writing for Gamertell as I do. It obviously isn’t enough for Associated Content either. The blog might make a dent in that need for being productive that I have.
So what am I covering with the blog? Good question. A better question, even though it is cliched, is “what am I not covering with the blog?” It’s going to be me talking about where my knowledge lies. It’s politics and satire. It’ll be film in general, because even though I am very knowledgeable about horror, the biggest section of my film collection is romantic comedy (Just because we all need to laugh and need to feel loved. Yes I had one of those cheesy, sardonic Gregory House smirks plastered across my face while writing that). It will also cover literature. Even though I love horror and dark fantasy, the biggest parts of my book collection are political thrillers (Thank you Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum) and crime novels (Thank you James Patterson, James Ellroy, Brett Easton Ellis and the list goes on).
While I will be doing mostly analysis, commentary and reviews, sometimes I feel the need to be creative. This means that when the muses are plucking the right strings, I might try my hand at fiction. Sure these will all be short stories, unless a demand for more lengthy stories pops up. These will largely be bizarre stories that would fit more under horror and dark fantasy than anything else but hey, if it works.
So check it out every once in a while. I could use the company. “Skeletons in the Closet” can be found at jgronli.wordpress.com. For consistent readers, and I know you exist since some of you actually come up to me to talk about my column, don’t worry. I’ll still be returning to the flat out madness of it all in this column until I graduate.
Jonathan Gronli will still be around. If you want specific things to be covered by all means let him know by e-mailing jon.gronli@gmail.com
