Starting on Jan. 16 Carla A. Knorowski will begin her post as Vice President for Advancement.
In a push to get the school more money, the University set out a search this past summer for someone to be VP for Advancement. The new position will “oversee fundraising and development activities as well as the areas of alumni affairs, marketing, publications, and public relations,” as stated in a letter to the University from President Sharon K. Hahs.
“Dr. Knorowski has more than 20 years of demonstrated success in public higher education advancement and other nonprofit institutional development,” said Hahs in her letter. According to Hahs, her wide-range of experience will provide a strong foundation as we redefine the vision of philanthropy and advancement programs at Northeastern.
In the Nov. 20 issue of the Independent Dean of Academic Development, Murrell Duster, who chaired the search and screen committee, stated that the search for the Vice President for Advancement began with 44 candidates that were narrowed down to four people.
Knorowski, currently is the managing director of development at the Chicago Humanities Festival, a multi-million nonprofit arts and humanities organization. Hahs’ letter says Knorowski raised over $10 million in the last three years.
The letter went on to say, that prior to that, she served in various positions at University of Illinois at Chicago, including Director of Advancement and External Affairs, Vice President and Associate Chancellor for Alumni Affairs, and Associate Dean for Development and External Affairs.
Hahs said, ” I’m proud of the collaborative work which resulted in such a successful process and an outstanding appointment. I would like to thank the search committee, led by Dean Murrell Duster, and everyone who participated in the process.”
Knorowski will also serve as the executive director of the Northeastern Illinois University Foundation, the letter also stated.
