The University’s upgrade of the student e-mail system created an unforeseen consequence at the beginning of the semester. They could no longer access e-mail from NEIU’s portal, NEIUport. Seven weeks into the semester, students still can not log onto their NEIU e-mail accounts from NEIUport.
The problem is bigger than originally thought, Director of University Computing Services, Kim Tracy said. “The new e-mail system is not directly supported by NEIUport and something new has to be created to fix it.” Tracy is hopeful that the connectivity issue can still be solved internally with a tool for all single sign-on programs, programs like NEIUport.
Computing services has also contacted several contractors to solve the situation. If a contractor is called in a new program will have to be created by to solve the connectivity issue. He is still unsure as to when it will be solved as computing services is waiting to hear back from the contractors called. Once a contractor is selected it is expected to be a few weeks for the problem to be solved.
