Danger and comedy

The Edge Comedy Club in Chicago is brand new, having just opened earlier this month, and is owned by Dave Odd. Though the club is for all ages, it’s geared towards young adults and college students. It also contains a bar for your drinking pleasure.

Before the show started, the audience was treated to some music by the local band “Maintenance Crew” with NEIU’s own Chantala Kommanivanh.

Dave Odd introduced the shows and told a few jokes himself, followed by an opening comedian named Dustin White. He had no trouble entertaining the audience.

The two main comedians that night were Mark “the knife” Faje, and Greg Fitzsimmons. The first show was with Mark Faje, better known as The Worlds Most Dangerous Comic; has been seen on “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” and many other shows. Faje put on an amazing juggling and comedy show! He juggled everything from simple balls, to bowling balls. He even juggled a live buzz saw, all the while promising more danger!

No great balancing act is complete without an assistant. In this case, the assistant being a live scorpion! He also preformed a juggling act with the scorpion down his pants. Faje allowed audience members to participate in some of his stunts, by allowing them to throw potatoes at his more sensitive areas. Faje definitely put on a very memorable show.

Faje was not the only one to indulge the audience that night, comedian Greg Fitzsimmons put on a hilarious show. Greg has been on many shows ranging from “The Tonight Show” to “VH1”. What added to his obvious comedic talent was his ability to get the audience to interact. Because this was a smaller viewing, Greg was able to talk to the audience and get their reactions. He tried out some new jokes on them to get feedback.

The Edge Comedy Club has proved itself to have some great acts, with plenty more to come! The Club has weekly shows every Friday and Saturday at 8:15 and 10:30, open mic night on Wednesdays at 8:30, and comedy contests on Thursdays at the same time. The club is located on 777 N. Green St. (by Halsted and Chicago Ave.) in the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts. For more info and tickets, go to www.theaterland.com or call 312-733-6000.
