The construction barriers surrounding Building A on the northeast end of campus at Saint Louis Avenue and Bryn Mawr Avenue are not difficult for students to miss. However, students might not be aware that it is just one part in a continuing overhaul of the whole campus.
Gary Bryan, NEIU Facilities Manager, said in a phone interview that the overhaul of Buildings B and C have been already been completed along with the mezzanine above Beck’s Bookstore in Building E and the complete replacement of Building G with the new Fine Arts Building. Building F will be the next to see renovation. The efforts at Building A focuses mostly on renovation of buildings that have stood since the founding of the Chicago Teachers’ College in 1961.
The newly renovated Building A will house the Dean’s Office, as well as, the College of Business and Management. It will include four classrooms, each equipped with Smart Instructor Stations and two with 19 student computer stations. The abatement and demolition phase for Building A will be complete in December of this year with a projected construction date of spring 2009.
