Larson and Barrios’ second day in court

Students, Matt Larson and Kenneth Barrios, appeared in court for a second time on March 28. Barrios’ charges were reduced to a “2A battery” a less severe charge of battery.

In this procedural hearing the university offered to drop their charges of interfering with a public institution if Larson and Barrios dropped their civil suit against the University. Robin Wagner held her charges of battery and third court appearance will occur on April 24 at 1:30 p.m. as a result of the court case.

“[We] don’t understand why the University is carrying on this case, it is a waste and besides the state’s attorney should pursue cases where people are really victimized and truly have been battered to the point of hospitalization,” said Larson. “We still feel we didn’t do anything wrong,” Larson continued.

“[I am] very pleased with the support from the Justice Studies department and other professors and students,” Barrios commenting on emails that have circulating around that have expressed support for the two students.

Representatives from the university were Dean of Students Michael Kelly, Santos Rivera of the Affirmative Action Office, Public Safety Chief Jim Lyons, and the arresting officers. 15 people showed up to support Larson and Barrios.
