Sherrick Simpson opened the game with a three-point shot and the Rockstars stayed on top for the rest of the game against the Anderson Champions in a 129 – 97 victory.
In a high-scoring game with comfortable lead fans got the opportunity to see the second string perform. Leading the Rockstars was Derek Molis with 22 points. After Molis was starter Philip Watson with 21 points.
The Rockstars were coming off a road loss the day before their second home game of the season. This was a huge win for the team and revived their confidence. “Our team has great energy and great chemistry. This win tonight really helps matters out,” Molis said about the win in a post game interview.
Molis admitted, “Personally I’ve been slumping a little bit. It felt good to get out there just to get some shots off and get some confidence. As a team we really have been playing well.”
Brian Zirkle, the backup to point guard Imari Sawyer, was a very noticeable player on the court. Zirkle was all over the court in a positive way attacking loose balls. “[At] Five foot nine, the smallest guy on the court, you got to work hard. Everybody knows when you hustle. They always see it when you don’t. Hard work pays off.”
Head Coach Kenny Williams said about Zirkle “He’s a solid point guard. I think our guard combination is pretty solid.”
“Championship attitude” is the phrase Williams used to describe the team’s current attitude to play. “It’s actually a tougher game to coach than a closer game, because you got to keep [players] motivated through the whole game,” he said.
